DAVIDSON — Before they began their last major fundraiser, volunteers on the McIntosh Law Firm Relay For Life team had already met their $1,500 goal. But that didn’t stop them from spending April 4 selling barbecue sandwiches and washing cars.

By the end of the day, the hardworking group had scrubbed more than 20 cars and still had smiles on their faces. Plus, they had raised another $420.

The group is participating in the Relay For Life of Huntersville and Cornelius for the second year to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Team Captain Kate Ah Hoy said they were inspired to join the effort after a coworker’s mother died from cancer. Ah Hoy reflected on how many had had cancer in her own family.

“Why not start a team?” she said, adding they have team members from the law firm as well as others who have joined their cause. “This is for cancer – not a specific type of cancer. It covers so much more.”

Relay For Life takes place 7 p.m.-7 a.m. May 2 at Bailey Road Park, 11536 Bailey Road. Details: www.relayforlife.org/hvcnc.
