HUNTERSVILLE – World champion-caliber riders Quintus and Brooke VanderSpuy own and offer riding lessons at Lenux Stables & Riding Academy, a 10-year-old company that also provides summer camps.

Lisa Hudson, Brooke’s sister, also serves as an instructor at the stables.

“Our camps give children something fun to look forward to in the summer,” Hudson said. “They give a chance for other kids who aren’t maybe quite as comfortable around horses to understand them. It’s a fun learning atmosphere. We focus on safety, but fun and learning, as well.”

Camps, which are open to all levels of riders from ages 3 to 18, include daily riding, learning to groom horses, pony painting, horse-related games, horse-themed crafts and scavenger hunts.

Lenux Stables offers three types of summer camps:

• Tiny Tots Camp – Offered to ages 3-6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 9-11, July 21-23 or Aug. 20-22 for $225.

• Horsemanship Camp – Offered to ages 7-18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 16-20, July 14-18, July 28-Aug. 1 or Aug. 11-15 for $350.

• Advanced Camp – Offered to those approved by instructor 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 23-27 (show prep) or Aug. 4-8 (trainer camp) for $350.
