MOORESVILLE – The Foothill Divers Club, based in Kings Mountain, held its third annual underwater pumpkin-carving contest Oct. 27 at the Lake Norman Quarry.

Divers showed up around 11 a.m. to a cold and windy setting, but still managed to put on their diving gear for the event.

Divers were only allowed to use their dive knives to carve the pumpkins, and they had to be completely submerged.

The Foothill Divers is the third largest club in the Piedmont Diving Rescue Association.

The cost to join the club is $70 a year, but includes fun events like this one, cookouts, an underwater Easter egg hunt and an treasure hunt where divers search for specially marked golf balls throughout the quarry for prizes.
