HOPEWELL BOYS

The Titans are 3-10 overall and 0-4 in the I-MECK 4A conference. They’ve lost seven straight since a 3-3 start. Two sophomore guards have been bright spots – C.J. Bryce averages a team-leading 17.3 points and Taj Middleton averages 16.3 points.

HOPEWELL GIRLS

The Titans have won two straight I-MECK 4A conference games to improve to 2-2. They’re 6-7 overall. Hopewell beat Mooresville by 19 on Jan. 8, and beat Lake Norman by six on Jan. 4.

Junior forward Bryanna Curry leads with a 10-point scoring average. Mariah Washington leads the Titans in rebounds (65) and steals (43).

HOUGH BOYS

The Huskies (10-3) are 3-1 in the I-MECK 4A conference after a nine-point loss to conference leader West Charlotte on Jan. 8.

Forward Luke Maye, a sophomore, leads the team in scoring (18.6 average) and rebounding (13.8). He has five games of 20 or more points. Point guard Drexler Clark averages 16.8 points and 3.8 assists. He has a team-leading 31 steals.

HOUGH GIRLS

The Titans lost by four to North Mecklenburg in a battle for first place in the I-MECK 4A conference on Jan. 4. But, Hough (9-3, 3-1 in conference) rebounded with a 65-56 victory against West Charlotte on Jan. 8. Kelsey Dean scored a game-high 18 points, Julia Brown scored 16 and Brandi Arey added 14 for Hough.

NORTH MECKLENBURG BOYS

The Vikings slipped to 0-4 in the I-MECK 4A conference with losses to Hough (62-48) and Mallard Creek (63-62) this week. North Meck is 7-7 overall.

Senior center Tahjai Watt leads the Vikings in scoring (12.6 average), rebounds (8.4), steals (2.2) and assists (1.6).

NORTH MECKLENBURG GIRLS

The Vikings maintained their lead in the I-MECK 4A conference with victories against Hough (54-50) and Mallard Creek (55-50) this week. North Meck is 13-1 overall, leads the conference with a 4-0 record and is on a seven-game winning streak.

Destiny Barrino averages a team-high 12.9 points, and is tied with Jasmine Cash in rebounding (5.1 per game).

SOUTHLAKE CHRISTIAN BOYS

The Eagles (2-12) have lost seven straight and are 1-4 in the Metrolina Athletic Conference. The leading scorers are Hayden Goins (11.5 average), Jalen Sanders (11.1) and Cody Cox (10.8). Bruce Dixon averages a team-leading 7.7 rebounds.

SOUTHLAKE CHRISTIAN GIRLS

The Eagles have won two straight to improve to 7-6, including a 64-52 victory against Metrolina Christian on Jan. 8. SouthLake’s Giselle Verville scored 23 points, Kianna Funderburk scored 18 and Janay Sanders added 11.

LAKE NORMAN CHARTER BOYS

The Knights are tied with East Lincoln and Bessemer City for the Southern Piedmont 1A/2A conference lead with a 3-1 record. They’re 8-4 overall and have won five straight games, including a 72-31 romp against West Lincoln on Jan. 8. Connor Whicker scored 19 points, including five 3-pointers.

Sophomore Malik McCormick averages 12.8 points. Jamon Cunningham (10.8) and Davis Elkins (10.6) are scoring threats.

LAKE NORMAN CHARTER GIRLS

The Knights (8-4) are a game behind Lincolnton in the Southern Piedmont 1A/2A conference standings after losing to the Wolves 47-42 on Jan. 4. Lake Norman Charter bounced back and improved to 3-1 in the conference with a 72-35 victory against West Lincoln on Jan. 8.

Alex Busch leads with a 15.4 scoring average. Ezinne Mbamalu averages 11.5 points,11.7 rebounds and three blocked shots.

DAVIDSON DAY BOYS

The Patriots lost their first four games, but have rallied to reach .500 (they’re 9-9). They beat Victory Christian 58-49 on Jan. 4, but lost to Greensboro Day 66-55 on Jan. 5

DAVIDSON DAY GIRLS

The Patriots are 8-4. Eight-grader Maya Caldwell is averaging a team-leading 16.5 points, 11.5 points and three steals. Senior Kay Funderburk averages 9.2 points and 7.8 rebounds.

COMMUNITY SCHOOL OF DAVIDSON BOYS

The Spartans fell to 5-7 with a 64-41 loss to Bessemer City on Jan. 2. They've lost six of the past seven games.

COMMUNITY SCHOOL OF DAVIDSON GIRLS

The Spartans improved to 11-3 with a 59-5 blowout against Piedmont Community Charter on Jan. 7. They're on a four-game winning streak.
