BELMONT – CaroMont Health and Gaston Hospice will host a viewing of the movie “Honor Flight: One Last Mission on Veteran's Day” on Nov. 11.
The free viewing starts at 6 p.m. at Stuart W. Cramer High School, 101 Lake Road.
“Honor Flight” is a heartwarming movie following four World War II veterans on the Honor Flight journey to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The film features Orville Lemke, a former plumber and father of nine who is fighting terminal cancer; Julian Plaster, an 89-year-old poet who has outlived most of his friends and family; Joe Demler, a soft-spoken retired postmaster, who was famously pictured in Life magazine as "the Human Skeleton" when he was liberated from a German POW camp; and Harvey Kurz, who saw the iconic flag go up at the Battle of Iwo Jima.
As the Honor Flight trip unfolds, Orville, Julian, Joe, Harvey and others share their stories.
CaroMont Health is also hosting its second annual Heritage Day celebration, honoring the constribution of local veterans, at 8:30-10 a.m. Nov. 8 at the Dogwood/Magnolia Caromont Regional Medical Center. Details: www.caromonthealth.org, www.gastonhospice.org or 704-861-8405.
