I recently looked at the state Senate district that covers Cornelius and Huntersville. It contains these two towns, a narrow ribbon along the I-485 corridor and then Mathews and Mint Hill. (When was the last time that you were in Mint Hill? Could you find it on a map?) It is an ugly example of how our elected officials jerry rig the election process through gerrymandering, where the politicians pick their voters before the voters get to pick the politician. In the last election, half of the districts in N.C. went uncontested, in large part because this jerry-rigged system preordains the outcome. Our “patriot” elected officials have undermined democracy at its core. (My comments have nothing to do with the incumbent, Jeff Tarte.)
Are we a victim of gerrymandering?
