HUNTERSVILLE – The Barnette Elementary School gymnasium will be transformed from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 21 into an art gallery showcasing original artwork created by students.

Caroline Kuncken, Barnette’s art teacher, has been working in partnership with a program called KidsArt Fairs to create an art enrichment program that includes events like this one.

“This art fair gets students and their families involved in art,” Barnette’s Principal Dianna Newman said. “When a child’s artwork is framed and displayed at home it makes the child more confident in their abilities and helps to build self esteem.”

The event will feature Barnette and Bradley Middle School musical previews, a raffle and refreshments provided by local restaurants.

Volunteers are needed for the event and should contact Kuncken at caroline1.kuncken@cms.k12.nc.us.

Artwork created by children whose parents who plan to attend will be professionally framed and displayed. Parents can buy the framed package for $29.95, plus tax.

Barnette will give proceeds to the Cultural Arts Team.

The school is located at 13659 Beatties Ford Road.
