Dorothy King Andrews Turner

HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Dorothy King Andrews Turner, 89, were held Jan. 16, 2013, at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home.

She died Jan. 13 at the Huntersville Oaks.

Born Oct. 5, 1923, in Effingham, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Lawton and Willie King Andrews. She was retired from Merita Bakery.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Turner; and sons, Lawton Turner and Charles Turner.

Survivors include son Larry Turner and wife, Debbie; daughter, Willie Daughtery; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Mildred Turnbull Workman

DAVIDSON – Funeral services for Mildred Turnbull Workman, 97, were held Jan. 20, 2013, at Davidson College Presbyterian Church.

She died Jan. 15 at The Pines.

Workman was born Aug. 28, 1915, in Moultrie, Ga., to the late Samuel Parish and Willie Belle Matthews Turnbull.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Georgia State Woman’s College in 1936. In 1951, she moved to Davidson with her husband, William, who accepted a position as a professor at Davidson College.

She was also a founding member of the board of directors at The Pines and an elder at Davidson College Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include son, William Gatewood Workman Jr. of Horst, Germany; daughter, Eleanor Workman Payne of Davidson; grandchildren, Gatewood Campbell, Will Payne, Will Workman, Gatey Workman, and Anne Zimmermann; and great-grandchildren, Justin and Hunter Campbell, Stella and Declan Payne, Kenneth, Emma, Walter, Emily and Ivy Workman and Liam, Amylia, Myron and Mary Zimmermann.

Robert Holden

CORNELIUS – Funeral services for Robert Holden, 85, were held Jan. 17, 2013, at Northdale Baptist Church.

He died Jan. 13 at his home.

Holden was born May 21, 1927, in Nebo, to the late Raleigh Gaston Holden and Bonnie Ruth Ray Holden.

He served in the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Comstock in Okinawa, Japan, in World War II.

Holden worked at Employees Mutual Casualty Company for 40 years, retiring as its president in 1992.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Frances A. Holden; sons, Ken and Keith Holden, both of Cornelius; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Gary Alan Painter

HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Gary Alan Painter, 76, were held Jan. 28, 2013, at Centreville United Methodist Church in Centreville, Va.

He died Jan. 11.

Born Aug. 10, 1936, in Asheville, he was a son of the late Avery Vance Painter and Mary Wright Painter.

Painter served in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy for 25 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Nicholas Painter; and son-in-law, Craig Curley.

Survivors include children Michael Alan Painter and Lynn Curley, both of Huntersville, and Patrice Brown of Centreville, Va.; and grandchildren, Carsen, Nicholas, Christopher, Katelyn and Devin.

Thomas Caswell Washam

HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Thomas Caswell Washam, 101, were held Jan. 13, 2013, at James Funeral Home.

He died Jan. 11 in Wilmington.

Washman was born Dec. 20, 1911, in Mecklenburg County, to the late William A. and Mozelle McAuley Washam.

Washam served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a supervisor at Cannon Mills.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Washam; son-in-law, Bill Smith; and siblings, Ruth Ewart, Evelyn Ellis, Vivian Porter and Catherine Washam.

Survivors include his daughter, Connie Heath and husband, Rick, of Wilmington; and sister, Hilda Carroll of Charlotte.
