HUNTERSVILLE – Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville is getting a new name.

The hospital, located at 10030 Gilead Road, will become Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center on April 17.

Novant Health, a 15-year-old Winston-Salem-based system of hospitals across Virginia, Georgia and the Carolinas, will rebrand the Huntersville and other Presbyterian hospital locations to strengthen the Novant Health brand.

“I’m very excited about it,” Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville President Tanya Blackmon said. “This means, we’ll get the great care we’ve always had, but under a new name. When you’re a smaller hospital, it’s good to be part of a larger system.”

Novant has grown from four hospitals to 13 since its inception.

Another hospital system in the region is also growing. The Independent-Tribune in Concord reported Carolinas HealthCare System break ground this week on a 23,700-square-foot medical pavilion in Harrisburg.

“Over the past 15 years, Novant Health has grown into a sizeable regional health system,” Novant Health President and CEO Carl Armato said in a release.

“In 2013, we will formally join our system under one brand to better serve our communities and bring efficiencies to our operations. Together, our employees and physician partners will unify to create an unmatched healthcare experience for our patients.”

Novant Health plans to upgrade services at its hospitals, including improved patient access by using online appointment scheduling, E-visits and collaborative patient-clinician care. The rebranding effort is expected to take a year, beginning with a new logo and updated signage.

“We have made significant progress to transform healthcare, but the next logical step in our journey is to tie our system together,” Armato said. “By unifying under the Novant Health brand, we are signaling to our patients and our communities that whether you seek care at a Novant Health facility in North or South Carolina – or northern Virginia or Georgia – you should expect an unmatched experience, including access when and where our patients want it at an affordable price. We want to make healthcare remarkable. That is our promise.”

Modern Healthcare Magazine recently named Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville as one of the top 100 hospitals in the country.
