On March 18, Davidson Day School celebrated its sixth annual Harrison Nichols Day in honor of Michael Harrison Nichols, a beloved student who was diagnosed in 2002 with Stage IV Neuroblastoma.
For six years, he received more than 35 cycles of chemotherapy, four surgeries, and radiation to his spine, brain and liver; participated in five clinical trials; and received a peripheral stem cell rescue. Harrison faced each day with courage and grace and lived life fearlessly, never giving into a bad day and remaining committed to being a part of Davidson Day School.
When he was too ill to come to school, Harrison would participate with his peers and teachers via a webcam in the classrooms. On Feb. 17, 2008, at 8 years old, Harrison lost his battle with Neuroblastoma.
