CORNELIUS – The Cornelius Police Department has concluded an investigation into allegations recently received that a school resource officer assigned to the William A. Hough High School sent inappropriate text messages from his personal mobile phone to an 18 year old female student at the school.

The investigation has determined that these text messages did exist, and while not obscene, were inappropriate and flirtatious in nature.

The investigation further determined there was no evidence of inappropriate physical contact between the SRO and the student.

The SRO, Officer Winston Douglas, has resigned his position with the Cornelius Police Department effective immediately and no charges are currently pending.

Should additional allegations arise, the CPD will continue its internal affairs investigation as needed to fully address all issues.

This investigation was conducted with the full cooperation of the faculty and staff of William A. Hough High School and the CMS Police Department.
