CORNELIUS – Relay For Life Huntersville and Cornelius kick-off May 31 at Bailey Road Park, 11536 Bailey Road, Cornelius.
The relay walk event begins with an opening ceremony at 7 p.m. and concludes at 7 a.m. June 1.
Relay teams camp out overnight and members take turns walking or running around the track at the park.
Relay For Life events occur in more than 5,200 communities and 20 countries.
Funds raised help the American Cancer Society save lives. The Relay For Life movement raises more than $400 million every year for the American Cancer Society.
Relay For Life Huntersville and Cornelius is still looking for participants to be team captains, team members or sponsors to help the community reach its fundraising goals.
In addition to the above roles, Relay For Life invites cancer survivors to play a part where you can choose to be one of the guests of honor at the survivors reception and join fellow cancer survivors and caregivers in the opening lap of the event.
There will be food, games and entertainment providing a family-friendly environment for the entire community to come and enjoy an evening out for a great cause.

As the sun sets, candles are lit inside personalized luminar bags that light up the night.
Participants, survivors and caregivers gather to remember loved ones lost to cancer and honor those whose fight continues.
The first team fundraiser will be held at Kilwin’s in Birkdale Village, 16926 Birkdale Commons Pkwy., Huntersville.
The Relay For Life team, Kilwins Chocolate Walkers, will hold its event from noon-5 p.m. April 20.
There will be face painting, kids chocolate dipping and other activities.
