James Ozias Ropp

CORNELIUS – Funeral services for James Ozias Ropp, 70, were held May 15, 2013, at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery.

Ropp died May 11, 2013, at the Levine-Dickson Hospice House. 

He was born in Bloomington, Ill., to Lidabelle Dever Ropp and the late Cornelius Ropp.

Ropp was a teacher at East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, Ill., for 33 years. 

He was preceded in death by his sister, Celia Ropp.

Survivors include his wife, Harolyn Treadwell Ropp of Cornelius; daughter, Christina Dowell and husband, Robert; son, Douglas Ropp; mother, Lidabelle Dever Ropp; sister, Cornelia Cramer; and grandchildren, Kayla and Annabelle Dowell.

Bertha Osborne Ballard

DAVIDSON – Funeral services for Bertha Osborne Ballard, 85, were held May 14, 2013, at Hopewell Baptist Church.

Ballard died May 10, 2013, at Novant Health Hospital in Huntersville.  

She was born on Feb. 16, 1928, in Mecklenburg County, to the late William Orr and Elvetta Arnette Osborne. 

She was preceded in death her husband, Thomas Jefferson Ballard; son, Steve Ballard; sisters, Lucille Stutts, Margaret Purser, Madelene Kennerly, Willie Mae Meadows and Lena Swaim; and brother, Billie Ray Osborne.

Survivors include her son, Jeff Ballard of Davidson; sister, Ellis Kelly of Mooresville; granddaughter, Christie Elizondo and husband, Rondo; and great-grandsons, Tyler and Jalen Elizondo.

Beverly Cross Bradford

HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Beverly Cross Bradford, 86, will be held May 18, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Ramah Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 4401 Ramah Church Road, Huntersville, NC 28078.

Bradford died May 8 at The Pines in Davidson. 

She was born in Charlotte to the late Walter Brooks Cross Sr. and Clara Smith Cross.

Bradford attended Kings Business School of Charlotte. She was a secretary at Bradford Brothers and later became the co-owner and bookkeeper for 3B Hardware and Bradford Properties in Huntersville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Dewitt Bradford Jr.; grandson, Robert Allen Frear; and sister, Wanda Cross Gaston.

Survivors include her sons, Cecil DeWitt Bradford and wife, Cynthia, and Smith Cross Bradford and wife, Cindy; daughters, Beverly Bradford Woods and husband, Ben, and Melanie Bradford Frear and husband, Bob; brother, Walter Brooks Cross; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Margaret Lewandowski

HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Margaret Lewandowski, 74, were held May 14, 2013.

Lewandowski died May 12.  

She was born July 10, 1938.

Lewandowski was a real estate broker and salesperson for more than 30 years.

Survivors include her sons, Michael Bradley and wife, Jacqueline, of Huntersville, Tim Bradley and wife, Anna, Mark Lewandowski and Bill Bradley; daughter, Jen Tarbet; sister, Ann Marie Blake-Ward; and nine grandchildren.

Grace Lucero Hoag

HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Grace Lucero Hoag, 82, will be held May 25, 2013, at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Drive, Huntersville.

She died May 7, 2013, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia.

Hoag was born May 6, 1930, in Denver, Colo., to the late Joseph and Theresa Lucero. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Leroy Hoag.

Sofia Komarnycky

CORNELIUS – Funeral services for Sofia Elizabeth Tabaka Komarnycky, 86, were held May 15, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Queensbury, N.Y.

Komarnycky died May 7 at Novant Health Charlotte. 

She was born June 30, 1926, in Ukraine, to the late Alexander Tabaka and Caroline Tiermann Tabaka.

Komarnycky co-owned and operated a condominium rental company, several resorts and a furniture manufacturing company.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bohdan Komarnycky.

Survivors include her daughter, Marie Komarnycky; grandchildren, Eugene Jarosh and wife, Nanette, Nadia Shipley and husband, Jack, and Andrew Jarosh and wife, Katherine; great-grandchildren, Eleni and Alex Jarosh, Peter Shipley; and brother-in-law, Roman Komarnycky.

Thomas Ball

HUNTERSVILLE – Funeral services for Thomas Carden Ball, 51, were held in Chicago, Ill.

He died May 6, 2013, at Hunter Village Nursing Home. 

Ball was born Feb. 27, 1962, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Edward Hyde Ball and Rosina Bagley Ball.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Nina.

He is survived by his brother, John Ball.
