Hough High beat Myers Park 1-0 in overtime Tuesday night in the N.C. 4A girls soccer semifinal.
The Huskies (21-2) advanced to Saturday’s state championship in Raleigh, where they won the title a year ago.
Hough’s Emmily Cowie scored three minutes into the first (of two) 10-minute overtimes, after 80 scoreless minutes of regulation. Brandi Arey’s pass from the left wing was deflected and the ball bounced inside the 18-yard box. Hough’s Lydia Drakeford corralled the ball and made a perfect back-pass to Cowie, who moved up from her center midfield spot and drilled a 25-yard shot that clanged off the crossbar and into the net.
Myers Park (19-2-1) had a possession advantage most of the first half, but Hough’s defense tightened behind solid play by Courtney Crump, Briana Cuevas and goalkeeper Marnie Merritt.
