HUNTERSVILLE – Most people head to a Japanese Steak House for dinner and a show, watching the trained chefs slice, dice and toss veggies and meats into the air.

Kabuto Lake Norman offers this show, but it also offers some great options on the menu, which boasts sushi, Chinese, Thai and Pan Asian. It is the only hibachi restaurant in the area will a full Asian kitchen.

“We truly can say we have something for everyone,” smiles General Manager Megan Tan.

The restaurant opened in 2001, and the menu has gone through some recent changes. The meat has all been upgraded, the seafood is now phosphate-free and the chicken is antibiotic-free. The shrimp is also larger in size and there is no MSG added to any of the food.

“At Kabuto, you eat with your eyes,” said Tan.  “So we make sure that everything looks as good as it tastes.”

Tan is quick to note that the upgrades did not result in higher prices for the customers. “We kept the prices the same on the menu, even though we now have better quality meats, seafood and chicken.”

The restaurant has become fine dining without the snooty atmosphere or high prices.

The restaurant cuts the meat and prepares the rice daily to ensure ultimate freshness. The dressings and sauces are all made in-house to strict standards.

“We are very proud of our ability to create fresh and excellent tasting food,” said Tan. “We make sure everything is of the highest caliber.”

The bar has also been upgraded along with the food and now has higher end liquors, specialty drinks, three different levels of wine and many local craft beers.  There is also a new cocktail menu with specialty martinis and drinks.

The restaurant is the perfect place for a large group.

“We can accommodate any allergy, taste preference or picky eater,” said Tan.

It is easy to let the chef know of any special request and they will honor it. A customer can sit at the hibachi table but order Pad Thai or sushi very easily.

The ultimate dish for the picky child or adult?  “Chicken Katsu,” answers Tan.  “It is similar to a chicken finger but made with all white meat and hand breaded.”

The result is an crispy bite of juicy chicken with no greasy taste.

There is a private room in the back of the restaurant that is perfect for a business or social gathering. Kabuto has two hibachi tables and plenty of room to mingle. A television and free Wi-Fi support any sort of video presentation. It is popular for rehearsal dinners, holiday parties and meetings.

The website is full-service as well, offering online ordering, reservations, gift card purchasing, catering and menus. Customers can find it at

The restaurant also offers many specials via daily deals, Facebook and text messaging. There are the daily Early Bird specials from 4:30-6 p.m. which start at $7.95, daily specials such as $2 off specialty cocktails and $2 sushi rolls on Thursday and $1 Sushi after 8 p.m. on Saturday.  These specials, along with the high quality food, make Kabuto a great place to head for a family meal.

“Come try us,” said Tan.  “You will not be disappointed.”
