UPDATE: Investigators have concluded that the body found belong to the 84-year-old resident of the home, Gay Nell Menscer.
According to the Davidson Fire Department, the Town of Davidson has not experienced a death in a house fire in over 20 years.
DAVIDSON – A death investigation is underway after a body was found on the property of 2001 Grey Road.
Davidson Fire Department received a call for a house fire at 5:15 p.m. May 28 at the same location.
Davidson, Cornelius, Mount Mourne, South Iredell, Odell and Huntersville Fire Departments respond to the structure fire.
After the fire was controlled, the Davidson Fire Department conducted a search for the resident inside the structure without success.
A body was discovered at around 10:20 a.m. May 29.
At the time of The Herald’s deadline, Davidson Fire Department’s Public Information Officer Dion Burleson said investigators were still going through the process of identifying the body and it was too early to tell if it was the resident.
Burleson also said that once the 911 call was received, it only took 47 seconds to dispatch the call and have units on the way to the fire.
Response time was five minutes.
