HUNTERSVILLE – Chet Greeson’s Hopewell High baseball team got off to a fast start and stayed in contention all season. He is the Herald Weekly’s Baseball Coach of the Year.

Hopewell lost its opener, then reeled off nine consecutive victories. The Titans battled for the top spot in the I-MECK 4A conference, but finished second to Mallard Creek. Greeson’s squad finished 19-10 overall and 10-4 in conference games.

Hopewell beat perennial state power South Caldwell 5-3 in the first round of the N.C. 4A playoffs before being eliminated by Olympic in the second round. Hopewell’s Ivan Acuna, Mitch Nowicki and Craig Zalewa were all-conference picks.
