Soccer players (from left) Brandi Arey (Hough High), Carolyn Huddy (Lake Norman Charter) and Kendall Fischlein (Lake Norman High) played on North Carolina’s team in the “Clash of the Carolinas,” an all-star game in Daniel Island, S.C.’s Blackbaud Stadium, home of the Charleston Battery professional soccer team. The “Clash” is the only interstate all-star soccer contest of its kind and features the top graduated prep soccer players from North Carolina and South Carolina.
Fischlein extended North Carolina’s lead to 3-1 with a second-half goal on a header, and the game ended tied at 3. Huddy split time in goal, limiting South Carolina to one goal in 45 minutes of late first-half and early second half-play. Arey locked down the midfield for the Tar Heels.
All three girls will play NCAA Division I soccer this fall – Arey at Gardner-Webb, Huddy at UNC Wilmington, and Fischlein at Wake Forest.
