CORNELIUS – Paul Robinson Jr. will take over as executive director of Our Towns Habitat, starting Aug. 5.

Robinson is serving in Iraq, as the executive director of MSME Finance, a micro-finance program of Relief International.

His career focus has been on working internationally with nonprofits in micro, small and medium-enterprise financing and related sustainability initiatives.

At Our Towns Habitat, Robinson will expand and diversify housing solutions, increasing partnerships with families, communities, sponsors and town governments, as well increasing organizational efficiency.

Enrique Sánchez, an 18-year Habitat volunteer veteran who has served as interim executive director since mid February, will remain as associate director for a period of time to ensure a smooth transition.

“Over the past 25 years, we have served 241 families locally and 2,500 families globally," said Paul Latten, chairman of the board for Our Towns Habitat. "As we proudly celebrate this upcoming 25th Anniversary, we welcome Paul Robinson to Our Towns and look forward to his leadership in serving more and more families in need of housing solutions in Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville, and in Guatemala.”

As Our Towns Habitat approaches its 25th anniversary celebration in October, it's raising money to support The House that Love Built.

If Our Towns Habitat is able to raise $50,000 by July 31, then an anonymous donor will contribute another $25,000 to build the 25th anniversary house. So far, they have raised nearly $35,000 since the challenge began on June 1.

The wall raising for The House that Love Built is scheduled for Oct. 5.

Any money raised over the $75,000 will go for what Sánchez described as critical repairs.

“They are established on the basis of need,” Sánchez said. “It closes a major gap that some families have, like a new roof or new floor.”
