HUNTERSVILLE – The Lake Norman Copperheads finished with the best record (22-13) in the regular season of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League, which earned a No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the playoffs

The Copperheads will host the Pineville Pioneers (15-17) in the semifinal round at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hopewell High. The Ballantyne Smokies will host the Carolina Vipers in Wednesday’s other semifinal.

 Wednesday’s winners will play a best-of-3 series for the SCBL Championship begining at 7 p.m. Thursday  at the home field of the highest seed.

Lake Norman led the league in hits (261), doubles (24), home runs (15), RBIs (121) and total bases (366). Forrest Brandt, an outfielder, was fourth in the SCBL with a .345 batting average.

The Copperheads’ team earned run average of 2.80 was second in the league. Chris Hassold (4-0), Mathew Ferraiolo (4-0) and Aaron Spano (4-2) finished tied for third in the league in victories. Hassold had a team-best ERA of 1.99. Josh Russell had five saves.
