CORNELIUS – The body of Matthew Bell, the 33-year-old charter boat captain who fell off "The Ragin' Mistress" during a cruise Sept. 1, was discovered by a boater Sept. 13, Sgt. Barry Rowell of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission said.
Members of the Cornelius firefighters recovered his body that Saturday afternoon near Marker D4, off Shearwater Point Drive in Cornelius.
A Charlotte resident, Bell was on the charter boat in an unofficial capacity along with 102 other passengers and six crew members the evening of the accident. Luxury Yacht Charters, the company who runs the vessel, did employ him as a charter boat captain, according to Rowell.
Rowell added that details remain unknown regarding how Bell fell into the 100-foot depths of the lake two weeks ago. An investigation is ungoing, he said, and an autoposy will be performed.
