Lillian Marie Almeda Barris

HUNTERSVILLE – Lillian Marie Almeda Barris, 85, died Jan. 26, 2014, at Carolinas Medical Center-Union.

She was born April 18, 1928, in Fall River, Mass., to the late Joseph and Rose Almeda.

Barris was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Barris; and brother, John Almeda.

Survivors include her son, Larry Langevin and wife, Patricia, of Huntersville; daughter, Linda Sarbo and husband, Michael, of Greenville; grandchildren, Kristin List and husband, Jeffrey, and Christopher Sarbo and sister, Angie.

Services were held Feb. 1 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home.

Ernest Clayton Watts Jr. 

HUNTERSVILLE – Ernest Clayton Watts Jr., 76, died Jan. 26, 2014, at Aldersgate-Asbury Care Center in Charlotte.

Watts was born July 22, 1937, to the late Ernest Clayton Watts Sr. and Ruby Tanner Watts. 

He served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after more than 30 years of service.

Watts was preceded in death by his bride, Ann; and his granddaughter, Bailey.

Survivors include his sons, Scott and Chris; sister, Shirley Watts Shaw; and grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Devan, Jordan, Jensen and Greyson.

Funeral services were held Jan. 30 at Assurance United Methodist Church in Huntersville.

William Thomas Gurley Jr.

DAVIDSON – William Thomas Gurley Jr., 62, died Jan. 25, 2014, at Serenity House in Mooresville.

He was born Nov. 20, 1951, in Iredell County, to the late William Thomas Gurley Sr. and Dorothy Gibson Gurley.

A 1970 graduate of North Mecklenburg High School, Gurley worked as the caretaker of Memory Lane Museum in Mooresville.

Survivors include his wife, Patti Campbell Hamrick of Huntersville; son, William T. Gurley III of Davidson; brother, James Gurley and wife, Sherri, of Mooresville; and sisters, Janet Harwell and husband, Eddie, of Cleveland and Linda Gurley of Davidson.

Funeral services were held Jan. 28 at Hopewell Baptist Church.

Ted Louis Mungin

HUNTERSVILLE – Ted Louis Mungin, 66, died Jan. 24, 2014.

He was born March 23, 1946, in Hollywood, S.C., the second child of Horace Mungin Sr. and Margaret Mungin.

After marrying his childhood sweetheart, Geraldine, he took a job with British Petroleum and raised two children in San Francisco, Lateef and Rashida.

Mungin worked in sales for various phone companies, including AT&T, before retiring in North Carolina.

Survivors include his mother, Margaret Morrison Mungin; aunt, Ruth Strachan; uncle, Leroy; wife, Geraldine; son, Lateef and wife, Aileen; daughter, Rashida; brother, Horace and wife, Gussie; sisters, Helen Deas and Barbara Lewis and husband, Roland; and granddaughters, Jade and Ami.

Funeral services were held Jan. 31 at James Funeral Home.

Kenneth Francis Swann 

HUNTERSVILLE – Kenneth Francis Swann, 93, died Jan. 23, 2014.

He was born Oct. 12, 1920, in Washington, D.C., to Phillip and Viola Swann.

Swann served in the U.S. Army during World War II for four years and worked at IBM for 41 years.

With his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Finnegan Swann, he had nine children and built two homes.

Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Donna, wife of Tim; children, Chris and wife, Karen, Denise, Terri and husband, Jim, Russell and wife, Jo, Geri and husband, Dana and Kenny; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Feb. 3 in Clinton, Md.
