DAVIDSON – Lake Norman-area teens in two bands will perform at Rock for the Cure to aid ShirleysAngels.org, a nonprofit that helps women diagnosed with breast cancer.

Davidson Day’s Cullen McGahan, junior guitarist, and Austin Noe, sophomore bass guitarist, have been playing together for about five years.

Their band, The Distance, includes lead singer Cameron Young, a senior at Cox Mill High, and drummer Chris Loll, a junior in the IB program at North Mecklenburg High.

McGahan performs in another band, Youthday, featuring Hough seniors: lead singer Logan Mariner, Ben Collins on bass and Carson Fiori on drums.

Both bands have performed at multiple charity events under the tutelage of Karl Gunther Studios in Huntersville.

McGahan wanted to organize an event where both bands could sponsor and aid a charity. He chose ShirleysAngels.org because it was founded by Shannon Laatsch, the wife of Brad Laatsch, his former chemistry teacher.

The event will be held 7-10 p.m. April 5 at River Run Country Club, 19125 River Falls Drive. Admission costs $15 at the door.
