Famous Christ Church male choir to perform at DCPC

DAVIDSON – The Christ Church Cathedral Choir of Oxford, England, one of the world’s top male-voice choirs, will perform sacred and contemporary works at Davidson College Presbyterian Church during its 2014 North America tour.

The choir will be joined by 180 singers from several area choirs, including DCPC, Davidson United Methodist Church and the Choral Arts Society of Davidson College.

The choir of 18 boys and 13 men is directed by Stephen Darlington, one of England’s foremost choral conductors. Darlington has traveled worldwide both with the choir and as an organist. An extensive discography comprising more than 50 CDs includes several award-winning recordings.

“Our chancel choir is very excited about singing with this world-famous choir of men and boys, and receiving coaching from Dr. Darlington,” said Jane Cain, music director at DCPC. “Singing great choral masterpieces in a large group is great fun and will be an inspiration!”

The program for the concert includes showpieces of the English choral tradition by such composers as John Taverner, William Byrd, Edvard Grieg, Edward Elgar and Gabriel Fauré.

The performance is at 7:30 p.m. April 5 at DCPC, at the corner of Main Street and Concord Road.

Tickets are available at www.CarolinaTix.org and cost $20 for adults and $10 for youth & children.
