DAVIDSON – Robin and Al Gardner are preparing for the March 21 grand opening of Davidson Wine Shop, located in the Condos in South Main Square.

Davidson Wine Shop will provide small production wines that sit at the crossroads of quality and value. Each bottle will be hand-picked by the owner with an emphasis on proving that you don't need to spend a fortune to get a delicious and sophisticated bottle of wine.

Davidson Wine Shop is the realization of a lifelong dream for Robin Gardner, who moved to North Carolina 16 years ago, when her husband, Al, became WBT radio's morning show host.

“We want to be more than another wine shop,” she said. “We hope to be a meaningful part of the community.”

Gardner hopes Davidson Wine Shop becomes a gathering place for dates, book clubs and girls’ night out.

She plans to offer classes and a monthly wine club to sample and discuss wines from around the world.

The grand opening, to be carried live on ESPN 730 radio 3-7 p.m., will feature live music from violinist Billy Shaw and symphony musician Alan Kaufman, food and wine tastings throughout the day.

Tastings cost $15, $5 of which will be donated to the Ada Jenkins Center and $10 will be returned to customers buying a bottle.

Davidson Wine Shop is located in the Condos in South Main Square, 130-D South Village Lane, Davidson. Details: 704-997-2876.
