CORNELIUS – Douglas Thomas “Tommy” Player Jr., 43, died March 14, 2014, at Levine and Dickson Hospice House.

He was born April 1, 1970, in Mecklenburg County, to Mary Hudson Player and the late Douglas Thomas Player Sr. 

Player worked for Food Lion.

Survivors include his mother; and sister, Karen Futrell.

Graveside services were held March 15 in Rockingham.

Angus McNair Wicker

HUNTERSVILLE – Angus “Mack” McNair Wicker, 80, died March 13, 2014.

He was born Jan. 15, 1934.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; sisters, Anne and Caroline; and brother-in-law, Harold Waddington.

Wicker was a U.S. Marines veteran and retired from Duke Power after 32 years of service.

Survivors include his son John, daughter, Sybil; and daughter-in-law, Pattie.

Kenneth Anthony Fons

DAVIDSON – Kenneth “Herman” Anthony Fons, 58, died March 12, 2014, at Levine and Dickson Hospice House.

He was born March 25, 1955, in Milwaukee, Wis., to the late Kenneth and Shirley Fons.

Fons was a chef for more than 40 years. He worked as the executive chef for the Jacksonville Jaguars and for the Carolina Panthers for the last six seasons.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Mortl Fons; son, Kyle; daughter, Kristina of Davidson; five sisters; and one brother.

Funeral services were held March 17 at James Funeral Home.

Robert Randolph Dunn

CORNELIUS – Robert Randolph Dunn, 67, died March 9, 2014, at his home.

He was born Dec. 15, 1946 in Akron, Ohio, to the late Albert and Jane Dunn.

Dunn worked for Barclays Bank, Nations Bank, Bank of America and was the founder of The Finley Group.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Stirewalt Dunn; daughters; Leslie and Diane Dunn; brother-in-law; Edward Stirewalt; step-mother, Theresa Dunn; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held March 13 at Myers Park United Methodist Church

Virginia Anne Bauer Jones

HUNTERSVILLE – Virginia “Jen” Anne Bauer Jones, 92, died March 6, 2014, at her home.

She was born June 23, 1921, in McKenzie County, N.D., to the late John and Elizabeth Bauer. Jones was a U.S. Navy veteran nurse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Jones; and son, Thomas Jones.

Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Baumgart and husband, Denny of Huntersville; son, Patrick and wife, Beatrice; daughter-in-law, Judith; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services were held March 10 at St. Marks Catholic Church

Polly Ann Martinek

CORNELIUS – Polly Ann Martinek, 64, died March 6, 2014, at Carolinas Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 4, 1950, in Hartford Conn., to the late Richard and Irene Hoffer.

Martinek retired as a claims adjuster for Hartford Insurance Company.

Survivors include her sister, Holly Downs and husband, Robert of Huntersville.
