Lew H. Woolfrey Sr.

CORNELIUS – Lew H. Woolfrey Sr., died April 4, 2014.

He was born to Patricia Woolfrey and the late James H. Woolfrey.

Woolfrey owned an electrical contracting business in Massachusetts and worked as a fishing guide in North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his brother, James H. Woolfrey Jr.

Survivors include his mother; wife, Ann Marie Woolfrey; sons, Lew Jr., and Brian Woolfrey; brothers, Curtis Woolfrey and wife, Nancy, and Gordon Woolfrey; sister, Marsha Corwin; and two grandchildren.

Betty Jean Lackey Sigmon

MOUNT MOURNE – Betty Jean Lackey Sigmon, 83 died April 4, 2014, at Gordon Hospice House.

She was born May 19, 1930, in Alexander County, to the late Clarence and Grace Lackey.

Sigmon ran the Coffee Cup Restaurant in Davidson for more than 30 years and Beacon Sweets for more than 10 years before retiring.

Survivors included her sons, Buddy Sigmon and wife, Brenda; daughter, Pam Williams and husband, Glenn, and James Clark; sister, Bonnie Johnson; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held April 6 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.

Sonja Elaine Bakke Krummel

DAVIDSON – Sonja Elaine Bakke Krummel, 85, April 3, 2014, at The Pines.

She was born Aug. 19, 1928, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Jens W. Bakke and Aagot Hansen Bakke.

Krummel retired as a school librarian for the International School of Geneva, La Chataigneraie in Founex, Switzerland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl F. Krummel.

Survivors include her daughters, Wendy Ikoku and husband, Noel, and Sharon Krummel; son, Jens Krummel; brother, Jens Reidar Bakke and wife, Marion; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service was held April 6 at Davidson Friends Meeting.

HUNTERSVILLE – Julia Theresa Maziarz Pliska, 95, died April 2, 2014.

She was born Sept. 1, 1918, in Utica, N.Y., to the late Martin and Sofia Trestka Maziarz.

She was preceded in by her husband, John Joseph Pliska; son, Kenneth; two sisters; and one brother.

Survivors include her sons, James Pliska and wife, Ann of Huntersville, and John Pliska and wife, Taki; brother, John Maziarz; daughter in law, Maquerite Pliska; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held April 4 at St. Mark Catholic Church.

HUNTERSVILLE – Cecelia Binchi Loder, 92, died April 1, 2014, at her home.

She was born Dec. 11, 1921, in Bergen County, N.J., to the late John and Oda Binchi.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas; and daughter, Patricia.

Survivors include her son, Lawrence Loder; daughters, Barbara Patrick and husband, Gary, and Cathy Donohue and husband, Dennis of Huntersville; and four grandchildren,
