Davidson, Concord and Kannapolis are among towns that organize free outdoor summer concerts.

They encourage residents to bring blankets and lawn chairs to watch performers belt out tunes ranging from blues to rock. Below is a list of concerts already announced:

 

Davidson

The Town of Davidson hosts the Concerts on the Green series on the first and third Sundays of the month from May to September, with a couple of dates in honor of Independence Day and the Chiquita Classic. Concerts take place 6-8 p.m. on the Village Green at the corner of Main Street and Concord Road. Concerts are as follows:

• April 27 – Davidson Symphony & Jazz Ensemble (classical/jazz)

• May 4 – Rough Draft (variety)

• May 18 – Side Car Social Club (eclectic jazz)

• June 1 – Gal Friday (country)

• June 8 – Band of Oz (beach/variety)

• June 15 – The Dickens Band (variety)

• July 4 – Independence Day  Celebration

• Aug. 3 – The Back Beat (Beatles tribute)

• Aug. 17 – Fourth Creek Band (James Taylor Tribute)

• Sept. 6 – Chiquita Classic Concert at River Run

• Sept. 21 – Davidson Symphony and Jazz Ensemble (classical/jazz)

 

Kannapolis

The City of Kannapolis hosts concerts for its Summer Entertainment Series at 7 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays (except for the week of July 4) June through August at Village Park, 700 West C. St. Concerts are as follows:

• June 7 – Joe Diffie (country)

• June 21 – On the Border (Eagles tribute band) and Tuesday’s Gone (Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute)

• July 2 – Charlotte Symphony (classical)

• July 19 – Carolina Soul Band (soul)

• Aug. 2 – Darrell Harwood & Gal Friday (country)

• Aug. 16 – Too Much Sylvia (variety)

 

Concord

The Concord Downtown Development Corporation presents the Union Street Live series on the third Thursday of each month from May to August. Concerts take place 6-9 p.m. on the Historic Courthouse Lawn, 65 Union St. S. Concerts are as follows:

• May 15 – The TAMS (beach/R&B)

• June 19 – Jim Quick & Coastline (soul/blues)

• July 17 – The Fantastic Shakers (beach/variety)

• Aug. 21 – Sea Cruz (beach/variety)

 

PNC Music Pavilion (Charlotte)

The outdoor concert venue formerly known as Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre still attracts some of music’s biggest acts. Concerts take place at 707 Pavilion Blvd., Charlotte. Ticket prices vary. Details: www.livenation.com. Concerts are as follows:

Other free concerts
• The Mooresville Downtown Commission and Big Hat Larry’s Guitars, Music & More kicked off the third annual Live in the 115 concert series on April 18. We’ll publish concert dates when they are announced.

• The Town of Cornelius hosts its Symphony in the Park concert at 8:15 p.m. June 28 at Bailey Road Park, 11536 Bailey Road, Cornelius. Fireworks follow the show. Gates open at 6 p.m. The prelude starts at 7 p.m.
