There was a time when LEGOs were mere building blocks. They have evolved into raw materials capable of producing works of art and robots. The only limits? Our imaginations.

Several LEGO-themed camps can be found throughout the Lake Norman area. Here are a few:

 

Bricks for Girls

The girls-only week consists of crafting and creating with LEGO bricks making jewelry, brick art and origami. Provided by Bricks for Kidz.

Ages: 5-12.

Dates: 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. June 16-20.

Place: Cornelius Arts Center.

Cost: $135 ($115 for Cornelius residents).

Mining & Crafting with LEGOs

Kids craft their shelters, mobs, critters and tools using LEGO bricks. Campers face new challenges each day, building motorized models and crafting key elements from the popular Minecraft game. Provided by Bricks for Kidz.

Dates: 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. July 7-11.

Place: Cornelius Arts Center.

Campers learn about real-life space exploration and build models related to the space program. Activities include group games and challenges. Provided by Bricks for Kidz.

ABCs  & 123s: LEGO

Campers create crafts, sing songs and build models based on the ABC and 123s  with DUPLO bricks. This camp reinforces basic preschool principles, such as letter recognition, counting motor skills and social development.

Ages: 3-5.

Dates: 9 a.m.-noon June 23-27.

Bricks 4 Girlz: LEGO

Girls enjoy a week of crafting and creating using LEGO bricks. Campers experience “Friends,”

The newest line of girl-themed models. Girls also learn unique uses of bricks including jewelry making, art and origami. There is a take-home project each day.

 “Zoo” tastic: LEGO

Children learn fun facts about animals, create crafts, sing songs, and build supporting models with DUPLO bricks. This camp reinforces basic preschool principles.

Ages: 3-5.

Mining and Crafting I & II: LEGO

Campers experience the world of Minecraft with LEGO bricks in this new camp. Students begin by crafing their shelters and some of the mobs, critters, and tools from the game. Each day, campers face a new building challenge using Bricks 4 Kids motorized models and craft key elements from the popular Minecraft game.

Ages: 7-12.

Dates: 1-4 p.m. June 9-13 or June 23-27.

Robotic Menagerie: LEGO EV3

Students build and animate a multitude of robotic animals, including dogs, elephants, serpents and dinosaurs using the brand new LEGO bricks system: LEGO EV3. Campers should have some prior LEGO bricks experience to best enjoy this camp.

Ages: 11-13.

Dates: 9 a.m.-noon June 23-27.

Robotics Mindstorm NXT

Campers learn to build and program Mindstorm NXT robots that  can sense light, follow commands, trace a path and avoid obstacles as campers’ robots compete in speed, accuracy and agility races.

Ages: 9-11

Star Wars/Space Adventures: LEGO

Campers learn about space exploration and build models related to the NASA space program using LEGO bricks. Additionally, campers build Star Wars themed models and participate in group games and daily challenges.

Juniors create from their imagination, learn basic building techniques and work with friends.

LEGO Mania

Design your own creations, build cities and moonscapes and put together large mosaics.

Ages: 6-10.
