Whitewater center celebrates Memorial Day
CHARLOTTE – The U.S. National Whitewater Center will host a daylong festival May 25 to celebrate Memorial Day.
The festival starts with an 8-mile trail race at 9 a.m. and 5-mile trail race at 9:15 a.m. Concerts kicks off at 4 p.m. with Earphunk, followed by Robert Walter’s 20th Congress at 6 p.m. and George Porter Jr. and The Runnin’ Pardners at 8 p.m. Fireworks start at dark.
Admission to the festival is free. VIP tickets for the concerts cost $75 for ages 17 and older and $45 for ages 16 and younger. Registration for the races costs $30 through May 22 and $37 on race day.
The U.S. National Whitewater Center is located at 5000 Whitewater Pkwy.
Race to feature patriotic feel
CONCORD – Charlotte Motor Speedway is planning a large-scale military tribute as part of pre-race activities for the Coca-Cola 600 on May 25.
The speedway will recognize Medal of Honor recipients, allow buses of troops and their families to ride around the track, show off military vehicles along pit road, enlist in seven war birds for an aerial demonstration and unveil a football field-sized flag during the national anthem.
