HUNTERSVILLE – The Huntersville Police Department is investigating a July 12 crash during a police chase that sent six people to the hospital
Cornelius Police learned July 12 of a wanted suspect staying at the Days Inn at Holiday Lane. He fled from officers and a pursuit ensued northbound on Interstate 77 from Exit 28.
Officials said the vehicle exited the interstate at Exit 33 traveling north on U.S. 21, where the suspect attempted to do a U-turn and rammed a police car.
The suspect got back onto Interstate 77 traveling south, crossing over the grassy median at mile marker 24 and traveling north to Exit 25 in Huntersville. The suspect continued traveling south on Statesville Road.
The suspect crossed the centerline at the 15900 block of Statesville Road, striking two oncoming vehicles. A third vehicle was involved in the crash but not struck by the suspect vehicle.
Six people, including the suspect, were treated of injuries sustained in this crash. Three were facing serious but not life-threatening injuries. Two Cornelius officers were also treated and released for injuries.
The suspect, Jeffery Wayne Greene, 48, of Rutledge Avenue in Charlotte, was treated at Carolinas Medical Center. He’ll face charges related to the chase and crash, as well as the following arrest warrants:
• Mecklenburg County – assault on a government official, injury to personnel property, hit/run fail to stop property damage, larceny of property/possession of stolen property, resisting a public officer and flee/elude arrest.
• Lincoln County – obtaining property by false pretense.
• York County, S.C. – obtaining property by false pretense (felony).
