The Lake Norman Conservatives met at Fox and Hound in Birkdale. The group has interesting speakers and help others to learn about issues impacting our region, state and nation. This particular meeting featured Karen & Billy Vaughn. They discussed Extortion 17 and are parents of the late Aaron Vaughn, a Navy Seal who died in the plane crash while on a mission coded Extortion 17. Photos by Dana Pianowski.

Wendy's is hosted their 1st Annual "Celebrities and Strikes" Bowling Fundraiser at Strike City located in the EpiCentre Charlotte. All proceeds benefit The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Each bowling team was paired with a local celebrity. This family friendly fundraiser included a bowling tournament, corn hole tournament, DJ Bryon, live music by Aswan North “Lead singer of Paper Tongues”, celebrity autograph sessions, balloon artist for the kids, and a huge silent auction. Antony Starr and Ivana Milicevic, stars of Cinemax's hit drama "Banshee," celebrated the premiere of the show's second season at a red carpet event at Charlotte's McGlohon Theater. Parts of the show are filmed around Charlotte and Mooresville. Beth Petty, director of the Charlotte Regional Film Council, was also on hand to talk about the importance of the state's filming tax incentives, which attract big productions such as "The Hunger Games" and "Homeland" to the area. The Evernham Family Racing for a Reason and the Autism Society of North Carolina cordially held an open house to celebrate the first anniversary of IGNITE. Hundreds of classic custom celebrity cars rolled into the Ingersoll Rand corporate campus on Nov. 30 for the inaugural AmeriCarna LIVE Car Show, created by Ray Evernham, ESPN broadcaster and Former NASCAR crew chief. Celebrities include Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, and many others. The event supported IGNITE, a new community center in Davidson for young adults with high-functioning autism or Asperger's Syndrome. The Arrival of Santa and Tree Lighting at Birkdale Village was a HUGE success! Birkdale hosts a parade and float contest as part of their Santa Arrival event. All proceeds benefit Grin Kids. Birkdale Village retailers donated prizes/gift cards for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in the contest. On November 9th, over 150 walkers, volunteers and businesses came together at Jetton Park to support the first Puppy Up! Lake Norman walk to increase awareness and raise funds to invest in canine cancer and comparative oncology research for a national Foundation Called 2 Million Dogs. This event exceed both it's participation and fundraising goals, making close to $13,000. The event kicked off with great music provided by Captain Lou 441. The North Mecklenburg Woman's Club's 5th Annual Holiday Over the Tabletop Fundraiser was an incredible success. The proceeds went to benefit The Build Betty A House project! Over the Table Top showcases the decorating talents of local designers. The Sip "N Shop was a huge hit with attendees as they browsed through items from artists and vendors. The First Annual Huntersville Chili Cook Off was Cancelled due to lack of "chili cooking" participants... unfortunately we didn't get word of the cancellation so we showed up to support the support crew and took a few pictures. The 40th Carolina Balloonfest occurred this past weekend at Statesville Regional Airport. The CROWDS were so huge that most patrons had to be shuttled in from the Iredell County Fairgrounds. If you haven't attended a Balloon Launch - mark your calendars for next year - this is one unique event that you don't want to miss - pictures can't do this event the justice it deserves.
